Steve Free

Fraternity recording artist, Steve Free, is certainly no stranger to radio. Even though a singles campaign is not underway presently, Steve can always be found on several hundred radio stations throughout America. Steve is an award-winning singer-songwriter, who uses his Appalachian/Native American roots, to deliver his "Music with a Message." He is an Ohio Arts Council "Artist on Tour" and an "Arts Midwest" performer. He performs extensively on the arts, fairs, festivals, coffee-houses, book stores and college circuits around the country. Steve is an Ohio Arts Council "Ohio Artist on Tour" and was nominated for the Governor's Award for the Arts in Ohio in 1996 and 2000.

Steve has been on the Fraternity recording label for the past eleven years and is produced by award-winning record producer, Shad O'Shea. He is a seven time ASCAP award-winning song writer, and winner of the 1996 Academy of Independent Recording Singer-Songwriter of the Year award.

Steve Free Steve's third album, "Time Line," received a platinum album award from Nashville's International Air Play Association, commemorating over 100,000 radio air plays of the single "Without Your Love." Another popular air play song from Steve's CD, "Down in Ohio," continues to receive extensive air play overseas and reached the top-ten of the Independent Folk and Country charts. "Siege at Lucasville" (about the 1993 Ohio prison riot) reached the Billboard National Record Chart and was featured on the CBS television show, "48 Hours".

Steve's songs have been chosen for a documentary film which chronicles the restoration of the historic river boat "Jennie Wade." He is currently working on a musical score with South Carolina novelist, Michael W. Maynard's "Willow's Gate." Mr. Maynard is presently collaborating with Frances Copola, on a big screen adaptation. Steve is also commission by the Regional Coordinator for the Lewis-Clark reenactment, to compose a song about the heroes journey down the Ohio River. The song will debut during a performance when the reenacters reach New Richmond, Ohio.

If all of the credentials aren't enough, Steve was recently honored with a star on his hometown, Portsmouth, Ohio's Wall of Fame.
